Yamaha make an excellent device that can make any sound out of other
sounds and I'd imagine a bloke sitting in whiteholl just typing the
bongs would be a good use of government money!

But Nottingham stops before midnight ...

They could of course used a precisely timed recording?

A computer playing recordings would be just accurate as Big Ben (which
is kept pretty close to the pips).

Could they not borrow the sound system at one of the local mosques?

The BBC has/had a line from Big Ben to Broadcssting House. perhaps it could
be reversed and a BBC recording played out.
