The original Xbox platform seems to have run out of grunt for the main
XMBC development guys but a lone fellow continues (but for how long?) ...

Think this is sadly the end of something.

I'm still using my XBMC on the Xbox on a daily basis, but I suppose many
folks have moved on to hi-def now. Still I haven't upgraded it for ages, as
'it just works' and does what I need it to do. I'm still using my unslung
slug too (NSLU2).

Apart from things born out of the hardware of PCs (and are in fact PCs),
other game consoles are so locked up in their manufacturer's propriety
code prison that they sadly can't be host to a heap of generous 'keep it
alive' developments from the internet community.

Failed set top boxes also don't have an easy 'way in' for re-purposing for
other applications - even built on Linux kernels, they also use encyption
tools to twart reprogramming efforts.

To be fair, the Xbox was locked up too, they just found an easy way to
unlock it.
Where there's a will there's a way, you can still jailbreak the latest
iPhone and use it as any other computer.
