Really, I thought Hitachi still existed, though most of the major Japanese
names seem to be just brand engineers these days, sadly.

I can't say about Hitachi for sure, but several of the big players will
licence out their brand. Panasonic, for example, don't make DECT
phones. But other DECT phone makers can licence the Panasonic brand and
put it on their own phones. Obviously there will be various safeguards
and procedures in place to protect the Panasonic brand values.

It's all very disappointing, because it's rapidly getting to the point
where the brand on any product says little or nothing about who made
it, where it was made, its quality, its performance, and so on.

Interestingly, my new Linsar 16" TV responds to many of the functions of
the remote control for the old 14" Goodmans TV it is replacing (but,
again interestingly, not vice versa). Does this suggest that Linsar are
made by whoever make Goodmans?
